I love flowers, but never had a garden before. When I first moved in I was keeping over twenty vases full of flowers. The place looked like this:
Six months later I was only keeping about 12 vases full. I fear Winter is coming, but perhaps that is just an ugly rumor.
Here is a bit of the back garden:
The same area later in the year and closer up:
And closer still:
There are red, white, yellow, pink, and purple roses, miniature roses in red, pink, and yellow, irises, lilies. Well here take a look at what a walk with clippers in hand can produce:
See, I told you I had purple roses. There are a ton of day lilies near the middle of the garden, some are white:
Some are purple, but only one of those got into this picture:
As you can see above there are a bunch of Cala lilies against the back fence which save me during the winter months (OK we only have two of those, but that is enough). After living in this house for a few years, the pack garden started to look more like this:
This summer I put a trellis on the back fence and planted a vine with large pink flowers. That made a big difference so I planted that vine all around. Now I fear for my dogs' lives. After one narrow escape from the vines, I had to bandage up Tom's wounds. He was quite resentful:
This is my favorite flower. The bush is right outside my office window:
Killer or what? But, the same flower has lots of yellow when it just opens. Like the flower on the right below:
Eighth few years have passed and my favorite rose bush did not survive, but still the view from the office is pretty nice:
My garden in 2002:
So what is my favority arragement? Less is more:
Everyone knows that flower gardens are a lot of work which is OK, but what is not OK is to go out and find a beautiful flower cut to the ground. Fighting bugs is harder than fighting weeds unless you have the right information. I found a great site for that information: Pest Products check 'em out.
One Final Mystery Uncovered
I found black and white proof that the National Cancer Institute (NCI)) falsified their test results of a safe cancer/viral treatment. NCI gets $4 billion of our tax money each year until they find a cure for cancer, so finding the cure would be the end of their comfortable jobs. That might explain their duplicity. If you:
