Canadian Rocky Mountains

by Paul Winter

Most of the eight years I worked for Hughes Aircraft, I spent living overseas. I worked for a year or two in one place. When my contract ended, I would take a leave of absence and travel around the general area for a couple of months. When I found an interesting place, I stayed for at least a week. This way I really got a feel for different life styles. I soon learned something valuable: the world is a mess. In some aspects, like self awareness, the world is getting better, but it is still an incredible mess.

There usually comes a time in one's life where you have observed enough and the desire to create and contribute becomes overwhelming. When this happened, I lost interest in travel and settled down. That was 15 years ago. Recently I have become curious; I wonder if I could once again enjoy travel despite my ongoing creative projects. In the fall of '97 a friend of mine in Portland, Dawn said,

"Come on Paul, walk down a few Canadian trails with me."

I have to admit the Canadian roads were excellent, but they had these strange strips over them:

A major photo opportunity, the Rockies rock:

Next is an interesting picture that doesn't look it. To make it interesting, try to identify:

  • The light green stuff near the bottom
  • The dark objects near the middle
  • The blue area near the top

Are

you

sure

what

the

blue

area

is?

Still sure?

It is not a retouched photo. It was taken just as you see it. Any idea what the big thing is? No, it's not a UFO. Here's a hint:

If you like "interesting" photos, how about this one:

This is also not retouched and it was taken with a normal, non-fish-eye lens. Is the camera level or are you sitting on a fat wallet?

OK back to the pretty stuff. There was some wild country in the valley behind the time-share we stayed at.:

That valley had some good trails, but I never liked staying to the trails. They are dirt and rock and it is too easy to miss the small beauties like these:

Of course, the big beauties are hard to miss. I call this Crab mountain:

Crab mountain's brother was a bit shy:

That was really off the beaten trail, but we did occasionally hit the tourist traps like:

That trap had some great texture:

But can texture be interesting if you increase scale?

Now I'm really pushing the texture thing, but what do you think?

OK, I know you guys really like the big stuff:

There was just a bit of water in that shot.

Want

more?

So what is that is so compelling about water?

Maybe you're just thirsty. How about a short shot?

And now, the parting shot:

After a week in Canada, despite this awesome beauty,  I learned that I was not ready to travel again. Perhaps after I write a few more books.

One Final Mystery Uncovered

I don't sell anything, but I found black and white proof that the National Cancer Institute (NCI)) falsified their test results of a safe cancer/viral treatment. NCI gets $2 billion of our tax money each year until they find a cure for cancer, so finding the cure would be the end of their comfortable jobs. That might explain their duplicity. If you:

  • Have trouble getting rid of any kind of viral infection (like I used to)
  • Want to be safe from cancer
  • Want to treat cancer

this may be the most valuable information you ever read: The Cancell Home Page.
